The User Experience Team at Microsoft has lost it
Someone fire the entire UX team, please. Removing the iconic colors, seriously??? The folks in Windows UX and at Pentragram don't really get the true spirit of Windows.

It's a good way to represent the loss of choices in Windows 8 - we're not going to give you a bunch of different colors anymore, it's the standard grey for everybody! ;)
I just thought of something else... this may actually be another symptom of pervasive Apple-imitation: Apple used to have a multicolored logo too. When they started their reincarnation with the iMac over a decade ago, they dropped the colors, and it's been solid white, grey, or black ever since.

Quite possible. Everything these days is retarded at Microsoft, very few decisions are logical.
They could hire the Stones to do another promo: "I see a Window and I want to paint it black..." (;P)
